Pres. Andy: We will vote next week for the slate developed by the Nominating Committee ... Wreath sales would work better if we had a point of sale credit card device available. We'll be going for a Foster's article. The Big Bean sold 9.
Bill: We'll be distributing 207 turkeys this year for Christmas food baskets: 25 to Newmarket food pantry, 150 to Cornucopia, and the balance to Lee Church food pantry. 25 went earlier to St Thomas More food pantry for their Thanksgiving baskets. We'll be loading at Market Basket by 8 AM on Dec 18th, and could use some help at Cornucopia by 8:45 AM.
Program
Bruce Thompson, State Chairman of NH's Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), explained to us that ESGR exists to protect their jobs for service men and women while they are serving. The law is implemented by the state Dept of Labor for National Guard and federal Dept of Labor for Reservists. Most of the ESGR work force is retired military working as volunteers; many of those who work to mediate disputes between returning service people and their employers are former Judge Advocate General officers (military lawyers). The scope of the challenge can be glimpsed when you consider that fully 45% of the military is in the National Guard or the Reserves.
The ESGR works to:
- educate military members on their rights and to encourage them to keep their employers informed of their service commitments.
- recognize employers with the Patriot Award who are supporting serving employees, e.g. BAE in Nashua and Turbocam in Barrington, Dover and Rochester.
- mediate disputes.
- assist with reemployment of service members who have relocated after their service.
Recently, several of our members enjoyed a refueling flight out of Pease, a program called Bosslift. A similar program involved Blackhawk helicopter flights out of Concord over Mt Washington in late summer or early fall.
