Announcements
Pres. Andy: We have a thank you note from the Capitol City Sunrise club for our support of their birdseed wreath project. They indicated that their price next year will be $20, probably a little too rich for us ... He's moved the Forum up from 3/21 to 3/14 so that we can get a jump on Fireworks sponsorship planning, and settle the question of our participation in Seacoast Bingo with the Dover club (he met with their President-elect Noreen Biehl last week).
Will: Fireworks documents are moving right along. Atlas Fireworks has their own insurance, UNH self-insures; town will cover their exposure with the children's activities (bouncy house, etc) we'll take a look at our insurance coverage (does not cover fireworks, but would probably be adequate for other activities).
Tom B: He has secured us space at Whittemore Center for the Home Show on Mar 24th and 25th. We'll be inside the arena on the concourse encircling the seats. He circulated a sign-up sheet for two-hour shifts both days. We'll have our wreath stock, and information about the club.
John: The next Rotary Leadership Institute is scheduled at York CC for Mar 24th. It's scheduled for 8 AM to 2 PM and will include lunch. For members anticipating moving into a leadership position, this short course is well worth the time spent.
Program
Marshall Bradstreet of Friends Forever introduced Noam Baranovsky, an alumna of the Israeli-Arab program, who came to speak with us about her experience. She is the daughter of an Ultra Orthodox Jew, and grew up in a settlement in the West Bank. It was a tense and hateful atmosphere. Looking to build a more meaningful life for herself, she took a chance on Friends Forever and it changed her life. She developed self-confidence, some skill at public speaking, and an openness to the "other". She has moved from a life of fear to a life of hope, and ascribes it all to her experience with Friends Forever.
