Tom introduced our guest speaker, Eileen Doyon.  She has written ten books, two of which on Lucky the dog she spoke about today.  The children’s books about a therapy dog with a prosthetic leg speak to the ideas that it’s ok to be different, and it’s good to follow your passion, life lessons for kids. Her friend, Christie, operates a therapy dog training center.  The profits from her Lucky books benefit the training center.

 

John spoke to the upcoming Fireside Chat at his house on Thursday, Oct 13th at 5:30 PM.

Kerry told us that a new Little Free Library is going to be put up by Phil at the Lamprey Health Care site in Newmarket as soon as they get the house decorated.

Bill reminded us that we have a Roadside Cleanup coming up next Wednesday, Oct 19th at 7:30 AM.  10 would be ideal.  We’ll be trying to get the UNH hockey/football teams to help.

ADG Greg Dowty came with two items.
    October is Rotary’s Polio month.  We’ve still got cases in the Afghanistan/Pakistan border area and now in New York.  The Dover club has identified their 10/27 Bingo night as their Polio night and our two members are asked to wear red to the event; and they’ll be doing an ice cream social in May called Pints for Polio as another fundraiser.
    He also offered that there is a foreign exchange student who is looking for a Rotary club affiliation for next year. Her expenses, normally defrayed by the club, will be taken care of privately. We’ll have to consider this one pretty soon so we can get her through the Essex system and lined up with the correct high school.
