Survivors of Abusive Relationships
In 2019, 97% of individuals who contacted The National Domestic Violence Hotline from New Hampshire disclosed emotional or verbal abuse. Despite the prevalence of psychological abuse, most supports for survivors of domestic violence focus on immediate physical safety and emergency needs, leaving a significant gap in services that promote long-term healing. This is especially concerning as, according to The National Partnership to End Interpersonal Violence Across the Lifespan (NPEIV), survivors are at significantly higher risk for depression, anxiety, PTSD, eating disorders, chronic pain, insomnia, substance use disorders, suicide attempts, and greater unmet mental health needs.
By increasing awareness through educational campaigns and offering holistic programs that support the mind and body we can address this gap and ensure survivors are fully supported at any point in their healing process.
