Steve discuss the water and oysters in the bay. There are 20 farms growing oysters in the bay and rivers now, and 1 trout farm. He started in 2011, he was one of 2 farms then.
Oysters are filter feeders, so they are cleaning the water as they grow. The only input for farming is fuel for the boats and labor, no feed needed. 500,000 oysters were harvested in 2019. It takes 3yrs to grow an oyster for harvest. Most of Steve's Harvest go to local restaurants and markets.
Working with the Nature Conservancy Oyster farmers used there harvest during COVID to restock the natural reefs in the bay.
