Announcements

Pres. Russ: In view of her changed circumstances, we've put Stephanie on Leave of Absence.  Ren is having some difficulty with his availability due to his new job and is on LOA as well ... He read a note from On Belay thanking us for our continued support of their gingerbread house program which benefits their work to build community among children who have a family member with cancer.

Bill: We've collected $1,000 so far which will be matched by the charitable funds to purchase 165 turkeys and 42 hams.  45 of those turkeys will go to the Lee Church and 120 to Waysmeet.  The hams will all go to St Thomas More.  A number of hands went up to volunteer for deliveries: Tues, Dec 17th at 8 AM behind Market Basket for Waysmeet, and Fri, Dec 20th at 8 AM for Lee Church and St Thomas More.  Newmarket is distributing vouchers instead of baskets this year; at Pres. Russ's request, Bill will inquire as to their need for support.

Tom: We have a thank you note from the Durham Church pastor for the Little Free Library ... He would also like to develop a fundraiser Bocci tournament, and will start scouting out suitable locations including perhaps Chuck's.

Andy: Has two boxes of Fireworks shirts which will be donated if not claimed by members.

David: Suggested that the Fundraising Committee consider raffling off an electric bike perhaps at the Rotaract booth on UNH Days at the beginning of the Fall term.

Steve: Shipped his largest collection of used phones.  Suggestions were made as to where else collection boxes could be placed including the swap shop at Durham Transfer Station.

Phil: Asked for the direct link to our volunteer listings.  Thanks to Will, here it is:

Program

Renee Wheaton gave us her Classification Talk.  She was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and grew up in Kansas.  She met her husband on a blind date, and some years later moved to New Hampshire on 9 days notice.  She has two sons, one at Honeywell, and the other getting ready for grad school.

Renee comes from a family of teachers but initially saw a future in architecture.  She discovered an interest in science, however, and took her degree in biology.  Later, she did an MA in Secondary Science Education.  Her route to Rotary runs through her boys.  Her older son started in Interact, was gobsmacked by RYLA, and couldn't wait to get to Belgium on a Youth Exchange program the next year as a junior.  The student reciprocal from Belgium stayed with her family for a full year.  Her younger son couldn't miss the opportunity to do a Youth Exchange himself and Renee hosted an exchange student from Japan that year.

She and her husband, Ray, are big baseball fans and try to get to as many games as they can.  He's from New York and is a lifelong Yankees fan.

Aside from her chemistry teaching life at Newmarket Jr-Sr High School, she advises the Interact Club.  At the moment, they are decorating classrooms for the holidays and visiting shut-ins who need help around their property.

It's great to have you on our team.

Is it the truth?  Is it fair to all concerned?  Will it build good will and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
