Pres. Tom: The Dover club seems to be satisfied with our work at Bingo, so he's hopeful that it will renew our arrangement at the six-month mark in Sep ... The Boothbay Harbor club ships quilts to patients in the cleft palate repair program; their letter asks other clubs in the district to help them offset their shipping costs ($200 covers 100 quilts).

John:  We deferred QuackFest from springtime to early September.  Tides for Saturdays are most favorable on Sep 8th.  Both UNH and Newmarket Interact have expressed an interest in helping again this year.  Inasmuch as we've had Sponsor support just recently for the 4th, our most likely best revenue stream would be duck sales.  We have about $4,000 in the Charitable account, so we could use another fundraiser soon - QuackFest or another.  If we move forward on this, John would like to retire from the chairmanship to an advisory role.  After some discussion and weak support, given the light turnout this meeting, Pres. Tom decided to defer a decision for another week.

Will:  Gave us a preliminary report on the 4th Fireworks.  Our estimated cost has been $24,000.  To date, we've raised $23,000 and have another $750 coming in from sponsors.  Due to the reduced manning of the catering operation, the charge for that item will come in lower.  The $1,700 charge for the children's play area will be incorporated in Parks and Rec's budget for next year; one less expense for us.  The Town Manager's office has received hundreds of emails expressing appreciation for an outstanding event, so although we didn't make a dime, it was a great community support event and made our brand  more visible.  The club voted to do it again next year and Will agreed to continue to chair the committee.  He invited those members who are interested in joining him to send him an email.

Pres. Tom: Speaking to the future, one of his hot buttons will be Membership recruitment and retention.  He'd like to gain 10 members this year and we're off to a good start with 5 candidates in the pipeline ... He would like to see us step up the pace of our community activities.  To put that in motion, he proposed that the club meet for breakfast three times in a four-week month, and use the fourth week for a community project, e.g. nursing home visit, soup kitchen, and to include projects to which all could contribute considering their business hours, physical abilities, etc.  He asked that we get out now into the various centers in each of our communities, e.g. fire station, town committees, businesses, find out what needs doing and bring that information back to the Service chairman.  In particular, he'd like us to consider taking up Special Olympics again (our last role was flipping pancakes for the participants) ... We need to build a calendar to make sure we don't miss opportunities (e.g. booking speakers like the coaches before seasons begin), events don't sneak up on us (a.g. deadlines for district-controlled activities like RYLA), and we make room for all we want to do (e.g. highway cleanup).  August would be a good month to get that done.

Ed. Note: Correction to Bingo in last week's Dinghy: Andy and John will do it tomorrow, Jul 26th, and Heather and Frank R will be up on Aug 2nd.

Is it the truth?  Is it fair to all concerned?  Will it build good will and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
